Well Nashville,

After you enjoy this perfect day with various outside activities like tennis, biking, mountain climbing, and hunting.

Come to the Mercy Lounge and enjoy some sweet tunes.  It's free.

Tonight it'll be a little different than other 8 offs because all the bands are playing a song by one of their favorite artists as well as original stuff.  We will be playing a song by Joy Division, one of the best bands ever.  If you have the good sense to be part of the netflix community you should add Control to your queue.

The 1st band, Rt Gentlemen, literally starts playing at 9:15 so don't be late and the rest of the night goes something like this...(order subject to last minute changes)

Rt Gentlemen

Kink Ador (playing Lady GAGA)

Daniel Ellsworth (Bob Dylan)

the Effects (led Zeppelin)

Brenn (Joy Division)

Mona (counting crows...just kidding, i don't know what they're doing)

Bravo Max (Weezer)

Taxicab Racers (Fleetwood mac)

Enjoy the flyer...it took way longer to make than it should have.

See you tonight!!

Turkey

A few weeks ago, I got a call from a very unusual number so of course... I didn't answer it. Little did I know that the pentagon was dialing with an interesting request. Fortunately it wasn't about any outstanding IRS balance, but a simple request for a short trip to a very far place.  So July 1st, with bags packed, passports secured, and nervous equipment on board, Brenn, along with our manager, Chad Provonsha and Producer, Michael "X" O'Connor,  started our trek to Turkey.

After over a day of travel, we finally arrived in Izmir to find a city that was unlike any we had ever seen or imagined. Packed with rolling mountains filled with houses and building piling all the way to the Mediterranean sea, Izmir opened its arms to us for the first two days of our trip. We spent the first night trying local beer (Efes) and enjoying a wonderful Turkish meal about 20 feet from the sea.

Our first show was a great success, playing for both American and Turkish military and civilians. Their warmth and hard work made our experience in Izmir absolutely seamless. After the show, some of us even had the chance to learn some Turkish Folk dancing....I have to admit I was a little distracted, I had the best partner!

The end of the trip led us to Adana, which is located a little ways from the water near the border of Syria. It was a quick trip, but the show was a delight.  Incirlik Air Base is one of the largest bases in the region, and hosts American troops and their families along with Turkish military. It was a 4th of July we will never forget, with a huge fireworks show following our performance.

We had a fantastic, adventurous trip to Turkey;  I honestly wish I could have stayed longer!  It was an amazing experience playing for the troops on one of most patriotic holidays.  We will never forget the experience and hope to return again someday.

Cheers!

We’ll be heading out July 1st to travel to overseas to play for several thousand soldiers, airmen, marines and sailors. It’s a great honor to be able to perform in Turkey for the U.S. military personnel.

This July, the shores and desert winds of the Mediterranean are reaching out to capture the visual soundscapes of Brenn.

Flying out on July 1st, Brenn will proudly land on Turkish soil and begin their five-day desert journey accompanied by their producer Michael “X” O’Connor and manager Chad Provonsha. The trip can be monitored by updates on brennmusic.com, Facebook, Twitter, and MySpace.

"We are absolutely pumped to fly out to Turkey to play for the troops! I think it’s the highest honor we've ever been given to be able to perform on the 4th of July in front of the men and women who defend our freedom every day". (Johnny Gradone)

Special thanks goes out to Armed Forces Entertainment for making this upcoming global experience possible.

Or Death And All His Friends

A week ago a friend told me the news…

Coldplay is coming to Nashville!

I’m not going to lie… I have a huge crush on their new album. “Viva La Vida” has been one of those rare albums, where I’m instantly hooked on the first listen, and have continued to love it to this day. Most of my favorite albums had to take a while to get there. This one came flying out of heaven with bells on.

Coldplay has been on my must-see-before-I-die list. (I saw the Killers last month. After Coldplay, that just leaves U2). So when I heard they were coming to Nashville, guess who flipped out? Guess who got up at 10 o’clock on a Saturday morning to buy tickets at $100 a pop? (ouch!)

Funny...

I just got one of the coolest birthday gifts of all time yesterday. The album SPORTS by HUEY LEWIS AND THE NEWS on CASSETTE.

You may be thinking... Chuck, the cassette is soooo dead. Where's your !&@$&!! iPod (or Zune player, for Windows users)?

My answer to you is this. My iPod is shoved under my bed, actually with a crack on the face because I left it in my car during the winter months. But can I just tell you how much the analog hiss of a cassette warms my spirit?

Does anyone agree with me on this? There is something wonderful about the following 3 mediums of audio.

1 -vinyl :: Because you really just can't go wrong. I mean really. This is probably the ultimate listening experience.
2 -cassette/8track :: same sort of thing. More condensed.
3 -mp3 :: one word for this little digital genius (did I spell that right?) PORTABLE.

With all of that being said, you may see some copies of Brenn releases coming out on vinyl. Who knows? I would probably freak out if that happened.

Thank you, and goodnight. If you are still up like me at 4 in the morning, my hat goes off to you and I hope you find solace in your lack of sleep. I know I do :)

Origins: Saginaw, MI
Occupation: Maker of ROCK (Theory Studios/Founder)

Fav Thing to drink: Mountain Dew.
Favorite genre of food: Mexican
Fav Album: Vs. Pearl Jam

Deep Thought: “I’m flicking switches right now and it’s soooooooooooooo fun”

Why this person was selected?
X was the power behind the Brenn EP Stack of Fears. Engineered, mixed, mastered, and co-produced by this man of no limits, X spent 4 months with the boys working 12-14 hour days back to back with out stopping. The band actually had to work in shifts at one point to hammer out all that he wanted to accomplish.

Beyond that he has been one of the biggest helps and encouragements to Brenn as they continue their musical Journey…

His nickname “X” comes from his college days, when he jumped from a 130ft water tower into a 12ft deep pool of water… and came out with out a scratch.

modular

Do you ever find yourself in fear of the “hottest new single” on the radio, instinctively bashing your head against the nearest wall (or car window, depending on location)? This week I came across what I (in my humble opinion) believe to be one of the best record labels on the planet. It’s called Modular (Australia). Their roster is sickening. Check this---

  • The Avalanches

  • The Bang Gang Deejays

  • Blues Explosion

  • Bumblebeez

  • Chromeo

  • Colder

  • Cut Copy

  • Eine Kleine Nachtmusik

  • Ghostwood

  • Jack Johnson

  • Gary Jules

  • K.I.M.

  • Klaxons

  • Ladyhawke

  • MSTRKRFT

  • Muscles

  • New Young Pony Club

  • Plug-In City

  • The Presets

  • Robyn

  • The Softlightes

  • Soulwax

  • Tame Impala

  • The Tough Alliance

  • Van She

  • The Whitest Boy Alive

  • Wolfmother

  • Yeah Yeah Yeahs

  • Leave Them All Behind

In particular, check out Ladyhawke. She’s “a lady, not a band” who is ripping up the states right now. She basically sounds like a teenage girl who has been holed up in her room for years playing Nintendo and decided to come out and play synth. With her… kittens?

I’m a sucker for anything with synth and kittens. Check it. Don’t forget to MODCAST!

http://www.modularpeople.com/03/08.asp

And please… if you have any good music suggestions, hit me up. I’m always up for new stuff!

Chuck

Ps… I’m by no means against the “radio single”… it just gets old sometimes! ;)
